Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Treatment

Save an infected or badly decayed tooth with gentle, modern root canal therapy.

When decay or trauma reaches the inner pulp of a tooth, infection and persistent pain can follow. Root canal treatment lets us save the tooth instead of removing it. At Dr A.I. Thomas & Partners, our dentists use modern techniques and on-site digital X-rays to assess the tooth, then carefully clean and disinfect the root canals before sealing them. Local anaesthesia keeps the procedure comfortable — most patients are surprised by how straightforward it feels compared to what they had expected.

Once the canal is sealed, the tooth is restored with a filling or, where there is significant structural loss, a crown to protect it long term. We talk you through each step, explain what to expect, and follow up to make sure healing is on track. Saving a natural tooth this way preserves your bite, your smile, and your jawbone, and avoids the need for an extraction and replacement.

What to expect

  • Local anaesthetic is applied before any work begins — the tooth and surrounding area are fully numb throughout
  • Treatment takes 60–90 minutes and is occasionally split across two visits for teeth with complex root anatomy
  • Expect mild soreness around the tooth for one to two days afterwards; standard over-the-counter pain relief is sufficient
  • A crown or permanent filling is placed at a follow-up appointment to seal and protect the tooth long term
